After a messy washout on Sunday April 23, where cricket could only have been played on the inside of row boats, the make-up date for the highly-anticipated T20 title match will take place this Saturday at Weston Park in Winston-Salem at 11am, when the Carolina Dragons from Charlotte will face off against the Fun Unlimited club in a rematch of the 2015 Division-2 final.
It was on this very same ground in 2015 where FUCC won the D2 title in their inaugural season, thanks to some remarkable batting heroics from Sandeep Kriplani and the former CCL Treasurer, Rahul Mandewalker's unbeaten 68. The Dragons bursted onto the scene in similar dramatic fashion that year and reached the final, but they still have not won all the marbles in any format. They are hungry for the glory and proved as much with their clinical dismantling of Awais Khan and the red-hot CUCC in last Saturday's semifinal at Lakhany CG.
FUCC had a tougher time earning their spot after barely squeaking by the reigning D1 champs the Charlotte City Club in a one-run victory last Saturday at Weston Park. The great Rajan Thakur was at it again with an incredible display of batting, posting his highest total of the season so far with an 86 on the way to a team total of 162, but Stephen Edward and Co nearly chased the thing down but fell one short at the end of 20 overs. Once again, Weston Park the scene of heart-stopping action.
Both FUCC and CDCC may have taken different paths to get to this point but one thing is clear, they are the first and second ranked teams in the playoffs, respectively, so this will be a must-see matchup with the two best fighting it out for the title, almost like Federer and Nadal. The game starts at 11 am and food will be provided. Everyone is encouraged to come out and witness this spectacle. It should be a real barn-burner.
